MECHANISM OF ACTION 

The mechanism through which modafinil promotes wakefulness is unknown. Modafinil is not a direct or indirect-acting dopamine receptor agonist. However, it binds to the dopamine receptor and inhibits dopamine reuptake. It also raises the chemical norepinephrine in the brain to increase focus and alertness. It activates orexin cells which then release histamine to keep you awake.
